(PLTM) - Police have released two men who were arrested in connection with the February double murder of Clevaughn Sweeney and Michael Stevens.

A day after the men were arrested, police disclosed that they were released without charges.

"Both men have been discharged pending further investigations," police said today, Friday, March 16.

Two men have been arrested in connection with the February double murder of Clevaughn Sweeney and Michael Stevens.

Police made the disclosure today, March 15.

"Officers of the RVIPF Major Crime Team today arrested two men, a 25-year-old from West End and a 32-year-old from Free Bottom, on suspicion of murder in relation to February’s double homicide of Clevaughn Sweeney and Michael Stevens," police said in statement.

According to police, no further information can be provided at this time.

The men have not been charged so their names are being withheld.

"Updates will be given as they become available," police stated.

Sweeney, 24, and Stevens, 26, both of Huntums Ghut, the only two in the rental vehicle at the time, were pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting incident after 4:00am on Saturday February 10.

According to police record, the two were assailed by gunfire from the James Walter Francis Drive, going west near the intersection with Station Avenue, before the vehicle came to a stop near the 1780 Lower Estate Sugar Works Museum.

The victims were seen at Crystals Nightclub where close to 300 persons were in attendance earlier that morning.

"What happened after they left the premises is unknown at this time," police said following the shooting.

Police are asking persons who may have seen the victims, either being followed from the nightclub or being pursued on the highway, to contact the Major Crime Team at 368-9342.
