(PLTM) - Governor Gus Jaspert has issued a warning to the many persons who are looting businesses, which were affected by Hurricane Irma, but survived.
Describing the behaviour as despicable, Governor Japsert said that those individuals will face the full force of the law.
"The vast majority of Virgin Islanders are working to support each other and to help support our recovery. There are though, sadly, some despicable people who are using our time of need to commit crime. I am appealing to the good and decency of residents in the Virgin Islands to respect the rule of law or persons property," he said last evening, September 10.
He said that extra security has arrived and is being deployed.
"The British military is on the ground with the BVI police and providing assistance. My message to anyone thinking of committing crime is that you will face the full force of law and should expect the strongest punishment," the Governor said.
This morning, Hon. Myron Walwyn, Minister of Education and Culture said that it is still happening.
"This conduct sickened me. Let us all show our contempt for this kind behavior. It's is still happening and those who may think that they have gotten away will face the full brunt of the law," he said on his Facebook timeline.
"I am aware that the police has evidence of many persons who were involved. If you have any pictures you took of persons who were looting, please find some way to get them to the attention of the police."
The Governor has extended the daily curfew from 6:00 pm to 9:00 am.
Governor Jaspert also said that shelters have been set up to accommodate persons who have been displaced.
