Daniel Petrovic represented the BVI at the 2017 Laser Under 21 World Championships.

(PLTM) - The flag of the British Virgin Islands was flying high at two international regattas, namely the 2017 Under 21 Laser World Championships and 2017 Volvo Gill UK Optimist National Championships.

Both competitions saw attendance of a total of three local sailors, Daniel Petrovic, Nathan Haycraft and Kyle Roose.

Petrovic finished 39th in the Silver Fleet at the Laser World Championships in Nieuwpoort, Belgium.

The Silver Fleet saw participation from over 120 other boats, which were then split in half to form the Gold and Silver fleets.

His best result came in race nine, when he secured 13th place.

Both Haycraft and Roose also represented the Territory well, having qualified for their individual categories in the UK Optimist National Championships.

Haycraft qualified for the Senior Gold Fleet and finished in 29th position overall.

He also secured a win in the fourth race of the finals series, but his overall score was marred by two starting penalties.

Kyle Roose finished in 19th position in the Senior Silver Fleet, with his best race being race three of the final series, where he placed ninth.

The competition saw about 127 boats in the Senior Fleet.

For the Optimist Class of the competition, over 380 sailors had to stay ashore as result of rough sea conditions.

Next up for Team BVI Youth Sailors is the Back to School Regatta on September 16-17, 2017.
