The young man who allegedly shot and killed his ex-girlfriend in March of last year will see some fifteen persons testifying on behalf of the prosecution when the trial commences. However, the trial has been traversed to the May assizes.

Alcedo 'Cedo' Tyson is charged with murder involving the killing of Kawanna Toddissa Todd-Rhymer, also known as 'Kay Kay'. Rhymer, 20, a native of Dominica was shot and killed on March 16, 2012 at the entrance to the CSY dock at Baughers Bay.

The trial was scheduled to kick start yesterday, March 18 before Justice Albert Redhead, but Senior Crown Counsel Valston Graham informed the court that they will be relying on some 15 witnesses. He said given that the assizes will be closing next week, it would not be sufficient time for the trial.

Graham also noted hat Tyson's lawyer, Richard Rowe, has since indicated that he will be making legal applications which will also take up time.

The prosecutor said in the interest of justice and the seriousness of the case from both sides, they should not rush it into this assizes.

According to court records, Tyson was involved in an intimate relationship with Rhymer which ended the previous year prior to Rhymer´s death.

On March 15, 2012, Rhymer worked at Delta Gas Station from 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm and around 1:00 am on March 16, she along with her cousin went to Paula's Bar in Baughers Bay. Sometime around 3:00 am, they left with two other persons and went to Deuces Night Club.

It is alleged that Tyson was seen at the club in a brown t-shirt and dark-coloured jeans. She said based on information, Rhymer and Tyson did not have any encounter that night, except for a brief conversation. It is alleged that Tyson was seen staring at Rhymer while she was dancing with her friend.

Court records are that around 4:15 am, Rhymer, her cousin and a friend were leaving the night club and as they were walking in the parking lot towards the friend's vehicle, Tyson walked past the ladies and went to another vehicle which was parked in the lot. It is alleged that Tyson was then seen running back to the ladies.

Allegations are that Tyson went up to the deceased [Rhymer], said something to her and shot her in the neck. She dropped to the ground and he stood over her and shot her in the abdomen and then ran to the same vehicle.

Prosecution has stated that information suggested that the area where the shooting took place was well lit and Tyson was not wearing any mask or head gear.

The matter was reported to the police.

This guy is Exhibit A on how not to throw away ones life. He has not only allegedly taken someone elses life, but threw away his own. Given that should he be convicted, as is very much likely, he will in all likelihood spend the remainder of his natural life at Ballo. Thus this delay in trial is... more
