Following further information received, officers of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force, yesterday continued their operations at Peter Island in search for more illegal immigrants.

The Police Information Office through a press release issued today, March 19 stated that responding to intelligence in the early afternoon of Monday 18th March, the officers detained a further 3 men and 1 woman of Haitian descent.

They were transported to the Road Town Police Station where they were screened and handed over to Immigration personnel.

"Following the operations over Sunday and early Monday, this brought the total number of suspected illegal immigrants detained to 27," police stated.

Following the initial operation, Police disclosed that the force working together with HM Customs and Immigration on Sunday March 17, mounted an operation at Little Harbour, Peter Island.

Responding to intelligence received, at 11:25 am the officers detained 10 persons hiding in the bush and one person in the resort itself.

At the time, police stated that subsequent searches in White Bay led to a further 12 persons being detained over the afternoon. Six of the detained were females, one is said to be a male child and the remainders are males.

"Most of the individuals are believed to be Haitian, although two may be from Cuba and at least one is believed to be Dominican. Interviews with the individuals suggest that they were dropped off at night by boat, believing they were on St. John in the USVI," police stated on Monday.

You all keep saying that they were trying to get to St. Thomas, how do you know this for sure. Whoever dump them off could have also told them if caught, say they were heading to St. Thomas. The BVI is not doing a very good job manning it's boarders. The captain of the boat know that if he had... more

Why BVI always intercepting these people? We have the most money? The people are trying to get to the US so just give them a basket of food and a map and send them on their merry way. I am tired of my hard earned tax dollars paying to repatriate these migrants.

They were only looking for a better quality of life and an improved standard of living; you can't really blame them for that.

You are right, can't blame them, they are human just like anybody else. But we cannot expect to absorb them either. We are overcrowded as it is, our local population and culture is overwhelmed, crime is increased as well as unemployment.

Trust me, if they had gotten to the USVI do you think things would have been ok for them? They better be glad they got caught in the BVI. The USVI laws are getting more strict with illegals. If they had gotten caught, they would have been deported right back to their country the same day. You... more

I don't know why you all are hitting the dislike button as per Really's comment. It is true. If one of you smuggle to one of those Countries and you are caught do you think that Country is going to be easy on you? We can't go to one of those countries and expect the Government to take of us.
