Following further information received, officers of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force, yesterday continued their operations at Peter Island in search for more illegal immigrants.
The Police Information Office through a press release issued today, March 19 stated that responding to intelligence in the early afternoon of Monday 18th March, the officers detained a further 3 men and 1 woman of Haitian descent.
They were transported to the Road Town Police Station where they were screened and handed over to Immigration personnel.
"Following the operations over Sunday and early Monday, this brought the total number of suspected illegal immigrants detained to 27," police stated.
Following the initial operation, Police disclosed that the force working together with HM Customs and Immigration on Sunday March 17, mounted an operation at Little Harbour, Peter Island.
Responding to intelligence received, at 11:25 am the officers detained 10 persons hiding in the bush and one person in the resort itself.
At the time, police stated that subsequent searches in White Bay led to a further 12 persons being detained over the afternoon. Six of the detained were females, one is said to be a male child and the remainders are males.
"Most of the individuals are believed to be Haitian, although two may be from Cuba and at least one is believed to be Dominican. Interviews with the individuals suggest that they were dropped off at night by boat, believing they were on St. John in the USVI," police stated on Monday.
