A 41 year-old woman was taken before Senior Magistrate Tamia Richards yesterday, March 12, accused of beating her co-worker who she claimed was having an affair with her husband.
Sherelett Evans, who pleaded not guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, was granted $40,000.00 signed bail and ordered to surrender her travel documents. Evans was also ordered to stay away from the complainant.
Both women are employed at Midway Restaurant, located in Paraquita Bay.
It is alleged that around 1:00 pm on November 7, 2012, the complainant was on duty while Evans was off duty.
The complainant is alleging that she had momentarily stepped outside to bag ice from the ice machine while listening to music through her earpiece.
Principal Crown Counsel Tiffany Scatlitte told the court that it is alleged that the complainant then bent over in front of the ice machine and at this time, the defendant arrived at the bar with her husband.
The court was told that Evans' husband proceeded over to the owner and was engaged in a conversation, while the defendant went to where the complainant was bagging the ice.
It is alleged that the defendant grabbed the complainant and began hitting her head against the ice machine.
According to the allegations against Evans, while hitting the woman she said, "I stay from till St Vincent and hear you having an affair with my husband".
At this point, the complainant fell to the ground and then got up, ran away and was able to receive assistance from a passer-by.
A report was then made to the police station and the complainant was taken to Peebles Hospital for medical treatment.
Scatliffe told the court that on November 11, officers met Evans at her home where she was informed of the allegations, but she denied and told officers that it was the complainant who attacked her first.
Evans will return to court on May 9.
