On Friday, March 1, the magnificent artwork of watercolour artist Jill Tattersall will be displayed during an exhibition of watercolor paintings, "Memories of the BVI", at the Old Sugar Works Museum.

Jill, 81, has lived in the Territory since 1965 and delights in painting her recollections of the early days in the BVI.

The opening ceremony will take place at 5:30 pm to celebrate her first solo show and the exhibition continues throughout the month. Museum opening times are 9:00 am - 3:00 pm and persons can call 494-9206 for further information.

Jill has acted as Reuter's correspondent in the BVI and has written many of both fiction and non-fiction books. She has become a well-known watercolour artist and also writes poetry. She has given community service on the BVI in several ways, such as on the Library Committee.

In her spare time, she has become a prominent local historian and archaeologist, as well as an internationally known expert on the lost languages of the Caribs and the Arawaks.

why can't the pier park architecture be built on this kind of history model instead of a generic, upscale Miami shopping mall? you could have the best of both worlds, your stupid designer shops while giving visitors the flavour of history and culture.

Jill also writes articles about history for the Welcome Magazine giving a glimpse into the past and doggedly hanging on to what history is collectively remembered before being forgotten. These kinds of exhibitions are invaluable because they reflect authentic recollections. Art work and old... more

It seems to be the ex-pats fighting for remembering history while many BVIslanders want the shiny new bling. If that is what you mean by "being ashamed". Or should we be ashamed for not thinking of it first and trying to protect what we have left. Not sure.
