For the first time ever, the Elmore Stoutt High School's (ESHS) Annual Career Expo will be opened to all fourth and fifth form students from across the Virgin Islands' secondary schools.
The schools which will take part in the event include Bregado Flax Educational Centre, Claudia Creque Educational Centre, Cedar International, St. George's Secondary and the B.V.I. Seventh Day Adventist.
The Ministry of Education and Culture stated that the Career Expo is scheduled to take place from tomorrow February 11 to 14 at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex and is expected to feature presentations from both the public and private sectors.
It will be held under the theme, "Tapping into Tomorrow by Preparing Today".
Over 300 students will also receive awards for completing the 2012 Summer Job Training Programme.
"Students will be exposed to four days of career opportunities from industry professionals. They will also receive presentations from dynamic keynote speakers," the Education Ministry stated.
Coordinator of the annual Expo and ESHS Guidance Counselor Mr. Sylvester Smith through the Ministry commented, "We do realise that while the Elmore Stoutt High School has the most senior students, the other schools will benefit from this opportunity as well."
At the opening tomorrow, Minister for Education and Culture Hon. Myron Walwyn and the Acting Principal of the Elmore Stoutt High School Wade Tobin will address the student body at 9:00 a.m. Keynote speakers for the opening ceremony are the Chief Executive Officer of JOMA Properties Colin O´Neal and Khalil Pickering, a current HLSCC student who benefited from the ESHS job programme.
The Ministry stated that on Tuesday, February 12, the financial services industry will be representing a wide cross-section of disciplines such as banking, insurance, shipping, investment, accounting, trust and funds.
Then on Wednesday, February 13 representatives of the public and private sectors will make presentations and showcase their organisation.
"Some of the Government´s departments that will participate in this year´s expo include the Health Services Authority, the Department of Information and Public Relations (GIS) and the Customs, Labour, Immigration, Agriculture, Survey and Town and Country Planning departments," the Ministry stated.
According to the Ministry the Career Expo will culminate with the College and University Fair on Thursday, February 14. Approximately, 20 institutions of higher learning will be on hand to participate in this recruitment drive.
