A major disaster was averted following quick action by the BVI Fire and Rescue Services and workers in extinguishing a fire at the Riteway Supermarket at Pasea.

According to reports, about 12:15 pm today, February 8, fire was seen emanating from the back of the newly built supermarket.

When BVI Platinum News arrived on the scene, Simon Potter, Managing Director of Road Town Wholesale disclosed that the fire had been brought under control and that they are investigating what led to the fire.

He further explained that it occurred in the open, outside the building where new offices are being set up.

Potter also confirmed that the supermarket was briefly evacuated as a precautionary measure.

First off I am glad that nobody was hurt - let me make that clear.

But I hope that this has put some fire under the ***** of the pricing department to give us some hot deals!

good quick thinking. But I can't help but wonder if this reflects any poor engineering or wiring because of lack of oversight or inspections. just asking because it is possible. I'm surprised we don't see more problems.

the point being inspections and permitting.
