Like many other areas, residents in the First District continue to exercise patience as they await the restoration of a constant flow of water. However, First District Representative and Opposition Member, Hon. Andrew Fahie, who has been speaking out about the matter, said contrary to what some persons may think the situation was not always like this.
"The water situation in the First District, especially in the Belmont Estate area where for the past four weeks there has been no supply of water and it was not always this way," he said at a recent community meeting.
The First District is not the only community facing water shortage. On Wednesday, the Ministry of Communications and Works stated that the Baugher's Bay plant is now functioning at half capacity, producing approximately 400,000 imperial gallons of water per day after experiencing mechanical difficulties with one of its motors.
According to the Ministry, the problem which occurred on Friday, February 1, has caused the Water and Sewerage Department to implement a water rationing schedule.
"As the Ministry, Water and Sewerage and Sage Holdings Limited continue to work to restore the plant to its full capacity, affected persons are asked to store and conserve water and to fill adequate containers to meet the needs of the household," the Ministry stated. The Ministry also issued a schedule for residents.
No further update has been given since the February 6th statement.
