Grenada's Kirani James, the London 2012 Olympic Games and 2011 IAAF World 400m Champion was warmly greeted by members of the Grenada Association when he arrived at the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport last evening, February 1.
James is part of a star-studded line-up for the Tahesia Harrigan-Scott Speed and Technical Camp which is being held today, February 2 at the A. O. Shirley Recreation Grounds.
"It's work for real...I am looking forward to my time here," James stated shortly after he arrived in the Territory.
His advice to young athletes, "Try and be the best that you could."
"In whatever they try to do, as long as it is positive and as long as it is something that will help them, the community, their family and the country go forward. It doesn't necessarily have to be directly through sports...As long as it is positive and they like it; do it wholeheartedly," James pointed out.
He also stated that young people must also surround themselves with the right persons, which he has done through the support of family, friends and the country.
"You have to have people around you to facilitate a smooth transition...My friends that I hang out with are very positive and well grounded. They look out for me and ensure that I stay on the right track. It is not hard staying on the right track when you have a lot of people around you that have been in your situation and really know what it takes to get to the next level," James pointed out.
The camp will also feature local sprinter, Harrigan-Scott and the USA's Dwight Phillips, a 2004 Athens Olympic Games Long Jump Champ.
Athletes are being encouraged to support the camp which starts at 9:00 am.
