Sea Cows Bay narrowly beat Baugher´s Bay in game two of their best of three series to secure the 6th District Christmas League Championship at the Save The Seed Energy Centre last evening, December 21.
Needing a win to keep the series alive, Baugher´s Bay found late scoring and was down by four points with less than 10 seconds to play when point guard Nathaniel Malone hit a three-pointer from a scrambled play. Still trailing by a point and a few ticks on the game clock, Baugher´s Bay was almost gifted the game when Malone came up with a steal.
His three-point heave missed as time expired as Sea Cows Bay grabbed victory by a final score of 65-64. Sea Cows Bay received the championship trophy and cash prize.
Raheem Blyden ended with 20 points for Sea Cows Bay, which ended the tournament unbeaten. Malone top scored for Baugher´s Bay with 27 points.
Sea Cows Bay´s Tevon Phillip was named the MVP of the tournament.
"Baugher´s Bay gave us a run tonight, but our team was not going to give in to their pressure late in the game...last year we did not win anything now we came back this year and played unbeaten. We really had a good tournament," said Phillip who received a trophy and a phone from Digicel.
This is the second year that the 6th District League was staged and hosted by the District Representative, Hon. Alvera Maduro-Caines.
"The turnout was greater this year than last year and we hope to continue for the next few years. Last year we saw the Belle Vue Boys taking home the championship trophy. This year they lost the playoffs to the Baugher's Bay boys who faced the Sea Cows Bay boys in the championship this year. Sea Cows Bay boys won two out of the three games scheduled and took home the championship trophy this year along with the cash prize," Maduro-Caines pointed out.

"Thanks to the many fans and supporters who showed up every night come rain or shine...I will continue to encourage our youths to strive for excellence in whatever they choose to do and always think positive. I take this opportunity to wish everyone in the 6th district and the country Merry Christmas and Happy New Year," Maduro-Caines stated.
She thanked D & B Trucking for sponsoring the slam dunk competition, Al's Marine for sponsoring the 3 point shootout competition, Harney's for the uniform shirts and Digicel for the phone.
The District Representative also thanked Bishop Cline and Brother Sukie Potter who welcomed the use the Save the Seed Center since league games kept being cancelled because of the rains.
