(PLTM) - GIS - Miss Gladyet Walters is the latest recipient of a social home from the Ministry of Health and Social Development.
The North Sound, Virgin Gorda resident collected the keys to her new home under the Ministry’s Housing Recovery Assistance Programme, which started after the passage of Hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017.
Minister for Health and Social Development Honourable Vincent O. Wheatley expressed his delight that Miss Walters is now a new homeowner and urged her to treat her new home with love and care. He extended appreciation to the team at his Ministry for their dedicated work in ensuring residents on the Sister Islands get the help they need.
Honourable Wheatley said, “They have done a great deal of work in ensuring that Miss Walters and other residents across the Territory benefit from this programme. We have been doing these social homes all over the Virgin Islands, in Anegada, Jost Van Dyke, Virgin Gorda and on Tortola and we intend to continue. Therefore, I am pleased to handover yet another house this year and also another house on one of our sister islands.”
Meanwhile, Ms. Walters also expressed her gratitude to the Ministry for ensuring that she now has a new home. “I am deeply grateful for my new social home that means so much to me and I want to thank everyone who made this possible. This has truly transformed my life,” Miss Walters said.
More than 27 homes have been built and over 200 repaired since the inception of the Housing Recovery Assistance Programme.
The Ministry of Health and Social Development is committed to improving the health and well-being of the people of the Virgin Islands.
