(PLTM) - BVI Airports Authority - The Government of the Virgin Islands and the British Virgin Islands Airports Authority are monitoring progress on the long-awaited airport development and has awarded KPMG (BVI) Ltd the contract to undertake works on the project.

Following a rigorous tendering process with eight (8) reputable companies, KPMG (BVI) emerged as the preferred bidder and will commence development works, with a timeline of completing the business case within the next three (3) months. This crucial phase aligns with the UK's 5-case model, and will ensure a comprehensive and strategic approach to the airport development.

Minister of Communications and Works Honourable Kye Rymer, expressed his enthusiasm for the project reaching this pivotal stage. He also underscored the importance of adherence to the Government's Protocols for effective financial management throughout the process, and reinforced his commitment to transparency, accountability, and ensuring the best use of resources for the benefit of the British Virgin Islands.

Honourable Rymer stated, "I am well pleased to know that we have persisted and have finally arrived at the stage where we can engage the services of a qualified contractor to chart the way forward with the airport development."

The minister emphasised the importance of upholding policy principles and stated he was pleased that the policy principles of the Government's Protocols for Effective Financial Management were upheld throughout the process. “This ensures that we are putting value for money considerations at the heart of the decision-making process and ensuring improved accountability in public sector operations,” Honourable Rymer said.

Chairman of the Board, Mr. Theodore Burke, echoed the minister’s sentiments and stated that the team is committed to a seamless and transparent process which aligns with the Government's financial management protocols.

Mr. Burke said, “We are dedicated to ensuring that every step taken in this project reflects our responsibility to the public we serve. The Board will continue to champion this project until it is brought to fruition."

Meanwhile, Managing Director Mr. Kurt Menal highlighted the wealth of information already available to facilitate the process. He said "Our team at the Authority is armed with a wealth of information gleaned from various studies undertaken previously. This source of knowledge serves as a robust foundation for informed decision-making throughout the development process."

Mr. Menal added, "The availability of this information not only streamlines the current project but also positions us strategically for long-term success. It ensures that every step taken is rooted in a deep understanding of our unique challenges and opportunities."

The Managing Director also emphasised the competence of the Authority’s team, stating, "Our skilled and talented team are not only passionate about aviation but are also deeply invested in the growth and prosperity of the British Virgin Islands and stands ready to support the Consultant on this project.

The upcoming days are expected to witness the formalisation of the partnership between the British Virgin Islands Airports Authority and KPMG (BVI) Ltd., with the signing of the contract. This marks a crucial milestone in the journey towards the realisation of a modernised and efficient airport facility within the Territory.
