(PLTM) - As residents prepare to head to the polls on Monday April 24, they are being urged to vote for the National Democratic Party (NDP) ‘all the way’.
NDP At-Large candidate Allen O’Neal said this is not the time to experiment, noting that coalition governments have never worked in the Caribbean region.
“You have to ensure you vote NDP all the way. I was in Anegada today and I heard a number of people on Anegada talking about a coalition government. Do they really know what a coalition government is? A coalition government never work, throughout the whole history of the Caribbean,” he said at a rally this week.
He added: “if you are a political historian like I am, not one political coalition government has ever worked. They always either break up mid-stream or the first year. A clear example is the recent coalition government in St. Kitts and Nevis where it only lasted one year.”
O’Neal said the people of the BVI experimented back in 2019 when they elected the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) to office, and that plunged the Territory into the position it’s in today.
“We have no time for experiments, we did that experiment in 2019 and it blew up in all of us faces. Let me make it clear that when you put individuals that do not have a good mindset, that don’t have a spirit set and [are] rookies, the result of what we have right now, where the country is on life support is upon us,” the At-Large candidate said.
He believes that in order to get the country off of life support, the NDP needs to be back in the seat of government.
O’Neal said that the bleeding has to stop.
“The bleeding is the careless regard for the spending of money. They have spent money on all kinds of frivolous things, on cronyism, nepotism, every ism they could spend on. Then they come and say they don’t have money to fix the necessary things like roads, water etc," he stressed.
