(PLTM) - Some political parties are offering monies to the elderly and differently-abled persons to sway their votes ahead of advance polling today April 20.
This is according to Shereen Flax-Charles, Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM) Ninth District candidate.
“Unfortunately, today I visited a couple of seniors in Virgin Gorda and they were very disappointed they say ‘what’s going on, persons are coming and offering us money, what is that about?’ So I am very disappointed that we are literally trying to hoodwink our elderly, differently-abled by offering them $40 or $50 to come to the polls to vote for certain candidates,” she said yesterday afternoon April 19 during a radio programme.
She said that this type of behavior has no place in the BVI.
“Let’s be real we have to stop that behavior. We need to allow people without influence to be able to go to the polls to vote for who they think is the best candidate and I believe with all my heart that the PVIM has a team that doesn’t need to do that,” she said.
Today from 9AM, early voting commenced where people 65 years and over, differently-abled persons and their caregivers can participate in the advance polls.
General elections takes place on Monday April 24.
