(PLTM) - The opposition Virgin Islands Party (VIP) is being blamed for the nasty meme which was created and circulated of Mrs. Judith Walwyn, wife of the National Democratic Party (NDP) Chairman, Hon. Myron Walwyn.
Hon. Walwyn said that only God can tell him that the VIP is not behind the vicious attack.
"It is sad to say, the Opposition’s campaign of nastiness reached a new low yesterday, when, via social media, they launched a particularly vicious attack on my wife. They have crossed the boundary of decency, or whatever little that was left in their case," he said at Hon. Mark Vanterpool's Fourth District launch at the Band Stand last evening, February 16.
He continued, "The Lord would have to come from Heaven to tell me that it was not the Virgin Islands Party and their operatives who initiated that attack on my wife. That has been the nature of their campaign from day one."
The NDP leader told the large gathering that his wife is not involved in any way in politics and there is absolutely no reason to target her in such a disgraceful campaign of filth.
"There is a cardinal rule in politics which we in the Virgin Islands have respected all along. And it is that while a politician may criticize an opponent, their spouses and children are off limits," he said.
Following the attack, VIP's leader, Hon. Andrew Fahie issued a statement denouncing the meme and said that family members are off limits. There was also outrage from the public via social media.
"Some people realized that perhaps they went a bit too far injecting my wife into this campaign, showing their xenophobic hand, even their dislike for hospitality workers and women—and now we see denouncements springing up left, right and centre," Hon. Walwyn said.
He continued, "There are some apologies that came out of the VIP camp that I believe are sincere and earnest, as even their supporters have expressed concern over the changing face of Lavity Stoutt’s party under its current leadership."
Hon. Walwyn warned that in the final days before polling day, persons will become desperate.
"In the Christian spirit I will forgive, but I also know that this coming week will be a desperate week for many and we should all be watchful. I am a man who is not afraid to say, that I would be nothing without my wife Judith."
"While I made a decision to serve my country, she has been keeping our businesses afloat and she has been keeping our home in order, and I thank her every day for that. Those who have been sending out these nasty memes cannot hold a candle to my wife," he stressed.
