(PLTM) - Senior Resident Judge, the Honourable Justice Vicki Ann Ellis has voiced her dissatisfaction with the unavailability of the Constitution and laws that govern the British Virgin Islands electronically.
Addressing members of Cabinet, the Judiciary and legal practitioners recently, Hon. Justice Ellis said that this is among some of the issues facing the legal act that need to be improved.
“It is 2018 and we still have not managed to have the laws of this Territory available electronically,” she complained.
The Judge said that this need to be addressed as a matter of priority, pointing to the fact that the laws could not be accessed post-Irma, since the library and physical copies were damaged.
This, Hon. Justice pointed out, is not only important to the Judiciary and the members of the legal profession, but for all members of the public who have the right to access the laws which govern them.
She also reminded of the need for purchases and donations to restore the BVI’s Law Library.
“I am obliged to point out that our Law Library, which was once of the envy of the Eastern Caribbean Courts, was completely destroyed in the storms and it has to be replaced through donations or direct purchases.”
