(PLTM) - Director of the Taxi and Livery Commission, Mr. Dameon Percival is encouraging taxi operators to start preparing for the return of Disney Cruise Line on August 28.

“Taxi drivers should prepare for the upcoming Disney calls by making sure their vehicle is in top working condition, and they have all of their paperwork up to date and on hand,” he said.

Back in June, Hon. Mark Vanterpool, Minister of Communications and Works announced that Disney Cruise Line will be returning to the BVI this month. This is approximately one year after its last call here on August 29, 2017.

Disney changed its itinerary to exclude Tortola in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma in September 2017, because much of the Territory’s infrastructure was badly damaged, including utilities, homes and businesses, port facilities and tourist attractions.

“Since then, through the combined and dedicated efforts of our Government, international, regional and local agencies and individuals, we have made significant strides in restoring the islands to normalcy,” Hon. Vanterpool said in June.

He added, “We can now state proudly that we are ready to receive the influx of visitors who will come via the major cruise lines, an industry that was extremely viable pre-Irma.”

Meanwhile, Percival advised that for the day, taxi operators should wear proper attire approved to operate at the cruise pier; ensure license is up to date; ensure they have working hands-free PA systems; and ensure vehicle is in good condition with no physical or mechanical defects, which is mandated by the law.

He noted that inspections will be carried out on August 28 at the cruise pier to ensure that operators are in good standing with regulations.
