(PLTM) - Update 2: Government has provided an update that the fire at Virgin Islands Motors has been contained.
Further, the road in Duffs Bottom is now open and motorists are free to traverse the area. “Persons who may have been exposed to the smoke resulting from the fire or experiencing any adverse effects of inhalation should visit a doctor or hospital.”
Update 1: In a statement from Government this afternoon, it was noted, “There is an ongoing fire at Virgin Islands Motors in Duffs Bottom. The public is asked to avoid the area and motorists are advised to traverse alternate routes.” They further stated that emergency services are currently on the scene.
According to a further update from Government, “Terrence B. International Airport is currently closed due to the fact that the BVI Airport Authority’s Rescue and Fire Fighting Service was dispatched to assist in putting out the fire at Virgin Islands Motors in Duffs Bottom.” They stated that the team of the BVI Airport Authority Rescue and Fire Fighting Service are now en route back to Beef Island. Once there, the engines will be refilled and the airport will resume services.
Initial Report — BREAKING NEWS: Fire At Duff’s Bottom Gas Station: BVI Platinum News has received reports of a fire at a gas station in Duff’s Bottom, this afternoon, July 21.
Flames and a plume of black smoke could be seen coming from the scene.
A few persons were seen quickly trying to remove vehicles from the area, while one vehicle could be seen engulfed in flames.
Traffic has been halted in the area.
