(PLTM) - Thanks to the hard work and commitment of the BVI Electricity employees and partnering teams from throughout the Caribbean, over 95 percent of the territory has electricity, six months after hurricane Irma devastated the British Virgin Islands (BVI).

On Friday, March 16, Digicel invited over 90 BVI Electricity workers and assisting teams to the Mariner Inn at the Moorings, for an evening of relaxation, food and music after months of them working tirelessly to restore services island-wide. The mini-celebration marked the final phase of the BVI Electricity’s restoration plan.

Kevin Gordon, Digicel BVI CEO, commented on the great work done by the team.

“Digicel would like to acknowledge and thank the hard-working team at BVI Electricity and all of the workers from throughout the Caribbean and beyond that worked alongside to assist. As a team, they have achieved a monumental feat of restoring power to over 95% of the territory in a matter of months. Not a day has gone by where you have not seen workers on the road working Monday through Sunday, rain or shine. Tonight, we say thank you from Digicel and the wider community for your dedication and hard work.”

Elaborating more on why Digicel felt compelled to highlight the work of this particular team, Gordon added, “We have Digicel engineers on the ground working diligently to rebuild our new network, so we understand the amount of effort involved.”

Digicel would also like to acknowledge and thank Road Town Wholesale, who provided beverages and gifts for the evening and the Moorings for their assistance in hosting the event.
