(PLTM) - BVI Platinum News understands that former politician, Omar Hodge has died.
Hodge died last night, December 20, at his home. He was 75 years old.
He was a long-serving member of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) and served over 30 years in politics. He was also the former Representative of the Sixth District.
A former Minister of Natural Resources and Labour, Hodge was affectionately called The People's Man.
He was hailed as a true champion for expatriates and constantly called for more favourable laws on their behalf.
Hodge retired from politics after being defeated in the 2011 General Elections by Hon. Alvera Maduro Caines, the current Sixth District Representative.
Opposition Leader and VIP Chairman, Hon. Andrew Fahie said that Hodge served the BVI with all his heart, mind and soul.
"For many years he was the voice for the voiceless and brought hope to many persons who felt a sense of hopelessness. The Virgin Islands Party as well as all the people in the BVI mourns his past. He was a former Deputy Chief Minister, former Minister of Natural Resources and Labour and represented the Sixth District with distinction for many many years. He was a caring man who would give his last to anyone in need. He loved people but most of all he loved his GOD. He was a true friend to many of us. May his legacy live on forever. May the soul of this GREAT MAN rest in eternal peace," Hon. Fahie said.
