(PLTM) - Opposition Leader, Hon. Andrew Fahie has received praises for the work he has done in his district following Hurricanes Irma and Maria, from an unlikely person.

Government Minister, Hon. Mark Vanterpool, said that Hon. Fahie has done a commendable job in his district thus far.

“In the First District I was pleased that the representative did all his best, both voluntary and otherwise, to get his district back on track and I want to highly commend him,” the Communications and Works Minister said.

Ironically, the government has been highly criticized by residents for not being on the ground and in communities immediately following the natural disasters. They have been accused of going MIA.

Minister Vanterpool said that he would not be truthful if he said that government was perfect in its response.

“I believe that all the districts need attention. This has been one of the worst disasters anywhere in the world. To say that we were perfect in responding to it, I would be saying the wrong thing. I am sure we made mistakes and we want to correct them…So we believe that we are doing the best thing that we can to respond to it,” he stated.

The Fourth District Representative indicated that following the hurricane, government granted permission to all District Representatives to do whatever is necessary to start the cleanup of their respective district.

“What we did right after the storm, we gave every representative, whether they were on the government side or not, permission to go ahead and get their districts back on track in whatever way they can. They were authorized to even hire equipment, workers; all representative of each district,” he stated.

The First District community, led by Hon. Fahie, has been working tirelessly to rebuild their district through community initiatives and widespread cleanup exercises.
