(PLTM) - Police have officially charged a serving police officer with a looting-related offence, according to police.
Police Constable Jermaine Brewley, a BVIslander, appeared today, November 22, before the Magistrate’s Court held at Road Town Police Station, charged with handling stolen goods.
He appeared alongside his wife, Jamaican national Shannon Brewley and Jamaican national Keisha Stewart, all from Sea Cows Bay.
He was granted bailed with his two co-defendants until January 19, 2018.
Following this appearance, Brewley was officially placed on enforced leave while an interdiction order is sought.
Commissioner of Police, Michael Matthews is decisively using the same actions meted out to those who were caught or charged in the relation to looting to deal with his own.
“As I have stated before, I will forcefully and publicly deal with anyone who is charged with looting or any offence related to looting. Today, unfortunately and shamefully, it is one within the ranks of RVIPF. Nevertheless, I make no exceptions. Police officers found breaking the law will also be dealt with robustly.”
He will go before the court as all others and his innocence or guilt will be determined there. RVIPF continue to encourage persons with photos or videos of persons caught in the act of looting to send this evidence to the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 368-9339.
