(PLTM) - Digicel has opened its new customer experience store, with much fanfare and giveaways for customers, who crowded the venue hours before the doors were officially opened this morning, November 21.

The Digicel store located on Wickham's Cay 1, was opened in time for the Christmas season.

Digicel BVI CEO Kevin Gordon said the store has even been outfitted with a new feature.

"We have integrated what we called a Smart Serve, an intelligent app that monitors our customers as they come in. It's a queuing system so that you can be served a lot quicker. The floor is open for everyone to come on in," Gordon said.

After a performance from students of Striders Drum Corp, the ribbons of the new store were cut and the doors swung open for customers. They were treated to breakfast and were allowed to check out the store's interactive features. Others were served by customer representatives, while some customers went to the new Digicel kiosks to pay their bills and do other transactions.

The first customer who entered the store was given a free gift bag (which included a cellphone).

Gordon announced that free gifts (including iPhone 8 cell phones) will be given away to customers every hour for the rest of the today.

"Some persons we'll be paying their bill, some persons will be given free service for a year and some persons will be given a free iPhone 8," Gordon said.

Refusing to give the exact cost of the renovations, Gordon admitted that damage from the hurricane and repairs to stores cost millions of dollars.

"What it cost us is love. It is the right thing to do. There is no price that you can put on improving the customer experience. If you are truly going to serve your customers, there is absolutely no price that you can put on the experience." Gordon said.

He added that Digicel did not just place focus on opening a new store, but expressed that the company took time to restore reliable service in communities across the BVI.

Customers at the store launch commended Digicel and told BVI Platinum News that the store opening proves that the BVI rebuilding at a rapid pace.

"If everybody can start over after what happened it means we are moving forward. I must congratulate Digicel because even the night of the storm when you couldn't use the other networks, it was Digicel signal that we used to reach our families," a customer said.

"Thank God that the store here has opened because it was a bit hectic down by the Pier Park," said another customer, David Lake.

Gordon said Digicel's aim is to stay ahead of competition by providing great experiences for customers.

"We like to say we are Irma-tested and Maria-proven. All the storms prior to Maria and Irma, we have shown our customers that we not just here, but we are here to deliver, so if you need an experience that is reliable you need to come here," Gordon said.
