(PLTM) - After years of countless doctor visits and thousands of dollars spent on medication, 60 year-old Raymond Richards was finally diagnosed with thyroid cancer in March of this year.

A local Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) specialist, based in Road Town, advised that he had to do surgery to remove the thyroid gland and prevent the cancer from spreading.

After the surgery, Richards knew he would have to live on medication for the rest of his life. Despite this knowledge, he was happy because the cancerous tumor was removed from his body.

Yet, there was another problem. His doctor worried that the cancer may have spread to other organs.

“After the surgery he had a marker in his blood known as CEA, which usually suggests the presence of cancer. We expected it to go away about 8 weeks after the surgery, but it was still there after four months, so we were worried that the cancer may be elsewhere in the body. Before he came to me, his orthopedic doctor wondered if he had bowel cancer or liver cancer,” said Dr. Kwesi Davis, who performed Richard’s surgery.

Richards was then told he would have to travel to Puerto Rico for a treatment, that would kill any remaining cancer cells and stop possible spreading to his other organs.

“I didn't have any money to do that. A friend of mine suggested that I try apricot seeds, which she said are good for cancer. I bought the apricot seeds and was told to take 17 seeds each morning. I decided to use turmeric, onions and ginger along with the apricot seeds. I blended those every morning and drank it because they said all these things are good for cancer. After the surgery, I drank that mixture straight up until the time Irma hit,” Richards explained.

He also admitted that he is still required to take medication that monitors his iodine level.

“I went back to do some follow-up tests earlier this month and the doctor said there is no trace of that cancerous substance in my blood,” Richards said with a smile.

Dr Kwesi Davis, ENT Specialist

“I believe the natural remedy I took saved me; even my doctor is amazed. Now I don’t have to go to Puerto Rico to do that treatment,” Richards said as he opened the door to Nature’s Way, a health food store in Road Town where he bought the apricot seeds.

“It is not impossible that the natural remedy helped him because dietary factors make our immune system more efficient. That’s why you have naturopathic medicine and people take antioxidants to boost their immune system. A lot of his healing is based on good solid [medical] work, but I won’t refute the dietary changes which may have helped; it is not impossible,” Dr. Davis said, who is pleased that Richards doesn't have a scar and hoarseness, usual side effects of thyroid surgery.

“I encourage people to eat healthy because the natural foods are medicine to the body. I also encourage people to use local doctors because I went to many doctors overseas and they couldn’t figure out what was wrong, but the doctor here helped me get better,” said Richards, who is holding firm to his theory that his natural remedy cured him.

He vowed that he will continue to blend his apricot seeds with onions, ginger and turmeric, even though the cancer has been flushed from his body.
