(PLTM) - Police have arrested eight persons on suspicion of looting.

Governor Gus Jaspert made the disclosure as he assured residents that law and order will be maintained.

"Additional police and security forces were pre-deployed and are out in force. In fact in the course of police operations today, the police have arrested eight persons on suspicion of looting," he said.

The Governor noted that the persons remain in custody awaiting court processes.

He reminded residents that the curfew remains in effect from 6:00p.m. to 9:00a.m. daily, to allow for recovery work to continue and the public is asked to fully cooperate.

"We continue to take a zero tolerance approach to crime and police will be actively protecting the public and property."
