(PLTM) - Preliminary reports indicate that the passage of Hurricane Maria did not have severe effects, as the people of the BVI had feared. However, Premier Hon. Dr. D. Orlando Smith has cautioned residents to continue to stay indoors.

"Good morning everyone. We must all be thankful that the effects of Maria has so far not been as severe as we had feared...The effects storm surges on the western area are not yet known," he said this morning via an audio message.

"We must therefore continue to be cautious and stay indoors as there is still strong gust."

Premier Smith also remind persons that the curfew is still in effect.

"Also remember the curfew remains in effect, so the essential work can continue once Maria has passed fully. So no sight seeing! By God's grace and protection, let us all remain," Premier Smith said.
