(PLTM) - The Department of Disaster Management has announced that the formation of Tropical Storm Harvey is no bother to the Territory, and therefore there is no need for a tropical storm watch or warning for the BVI.

On August 17, the DDM reported that the BVI can breathe a sigh of relief, because the Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services indicated that Tropical Storm Harvey was forecast to pass well to the south of the Leeward Islands and British Virgin Islands.

Additionally, it was mentioned that the tropical wave which affected the Territory on Wednesday and Thursday has also passed, leaving some lingering moisture and showers that may still be experienced.

Nonetheless, the DDM noted that the news of Harvey and the tropical wave should not cause complacency, because it does not mean that the BVI is in the clear.

In fact, the DDM is admonishing residents to monitor Disturbance 1(Invest 92L) which is located about 950 miles east-northeast of Barbados.

“The disturbance is expected to be near the northern Leeward Islands on Saturday night, possibly as a Depression or a weak Tropical Storm. Residents should monitor this system as it has the potential affect the Virgin Islands,” the DDM announced.
