(PLTM) - Cognizant that it's still hurricane season, the Government said that it has moved to clean the ghuts in Road Town, which were blocked during last week's Tropical Wave.
To this end, plans are underway to re-engineer the Long Bush ghut, that was blocked during the flooding with debris.
"The other ghut coming down from Joe's Hill was also blocked with all the debris that came down, blocking the burial ground and creating about 8 feet of debris in the area," stated Hon. Mark Vanterpool, Minister of Communications and Works.
The Fourth District Representative explained that they took off the top and it is now being cleared, and that this particular ghut needs some diverting, which is being worked on.
He further noted that this is a long standing problem whenever it rains.
"The Joe's Hill ghut empties into other ghuts, but overflows into the Crabbe Lot area, which creates another problem. These particular drains are covered, so they are difficult to clean."
Moving forward, the Minister said that a different plan is now being employed to take off the covers and replace them with removable slabs, so they can be cleaned more often.
The ghut cleaning extends to the Fire Station bridge.
