(PLTM) - The Department of Disaster Management (DDM) has advised that the flash flood warning, issued early this morning, has been discontinued. However, A flash flood advisory is in effect until midday today, August 17.

A flood advisory means minor flooding is occurring, likely or imminent. A flash flood advisory can be upgraded to a flash flood watch at short notice.

According to the weather report, lingering moisture and instability associated with a tropical wave exiting the area could generate some unsettled conditions across the islands.

The DDM stated that it will continue to monitor these weather systems and provide updates when they become available.

A flash flood watch is in effect for low lying and flood prone areas of the British Virgin Islands until midnight, the Department of Disaster Management (DDM) disclosed this afternoon, August 16.

The watch was issued by the Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services.

A flash flood watch means that moderate to major flooding is possible but not imminent in the watch area. Residents in low lying and flood prone areas should make preparations for flooding to safe guard life and property. They should be prepared to move to higher ground if flooding rains develop or a flash flood warning is issued.

An active tropical wave moving over the Leeward Islands is causing periodic heavy showers and thunderstorms. Hence, moderate flooding of low lying and flood prone areas is possible.

Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services and Department of Disaster Management will continue to monitor the weather situation.

The Territory is still recovering from a tropical wave which occurred last week Monday.
