(PLTM) - This year’s crowned Miss British Virgin Islands will be the envy of the region, when she sports her new crown.

Over the weekend, July 15, Mi Amor Jewelers handed over a spanking new crown to the Miss British Virgin Islands Pageant committee. The piece, which amounts to a cost of $5500, was designed and sponsored by the local jewelers.

The crown features nine Persian blue oval cabochon cut turquoise stones, with opaque clarity and no visible impurities. The total weight of the stones in the crown is a whopping 127.35 carats.

The stones are then set in 14kt white gold and genuine sterling silver, and encrusted with triple A-quality cubic zirconia stones.

As noted by the jewelers, the crown’s design illustrates the beauty of the Virgin Islands.

Speaking with co-chair of the pageant, Damion Grange, he explained that the crown will be in rotation for the next ten queens, then will be retired and donated to the BVI museum for display and historical reference.

Grange stated that the initiative ties in perfectly with the recent merger of the Miss BVI, Miss BVI World and Miss Universe franchises.

“This initiative is the first of its kind locally, and we feel that it will add to the prestige of the title. We are so happy that Mi Amor has decided to collaborate with us in the creation of this stunning heirloom tiara. This collaboration is in keeping with our mission to preserve and build on the traditions of BVI pageantry.”

He continued, “I believe the initiative blends perfectly with the merger, therefore symbolizing a bright and sparkly future for the union and next queens.”

The piece will be insured by the pageant’s philanthropic partner, Caribbean Insurers limited.
