(PLTM) - BVIslanders continue to make their mark around the world and on the international stage in various industries, with the most recent star being Shane Liburd, aspiring actor.

Driven by the aim of making his country proud, the 22 year-old recently landed an amazing opportunity to star in an educational series that is viewed in close to 50,000 homes and schools across the world, including the British Virgin Islands.

The series, developed by PreSchool Play, a US based educational company, produces interactive videos where their cast members sing and dance as a way to teach children between the ages of 4-10, their alphabets, numbers, animals and other basic educational lessons.

Speaking with the recent graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, in Los Angeles, Liburd said he is grateful for the opportunity to be a part of such a project. However, he noted that the opportunity acts as a foot in the door for where he really wants to go.

“Acting is something I always wanted to do; this is just an avenue for me to get my foot in the door.”

He said, “I love acting, ever since I joined the theater arts programme in high school. That’s when my eyes got open to the world of theater and my interest sparked.”

Liburd told BVI Platinum News that he has much further to go in his career.

“Right now I’m focusing on getting a gig where I can star or make an appearance in a television show or television series. That’s the goal for the next two years and then further than that in the future.”

He added, “In two years’ time, the goal is to at least book a national commercial or guest star on a television show.”

He stated that he is driven by his desire to make his country proud.

“Being in LA as a BVIslander, the main goal is to put the BVI on the map, let people know who we are and that we aren’t just a small island; we have talent. Making my fellow BVIslanders proud is the goal. I'll make them proud."

In advice to other locals, Liburd said to never give up on a dream.

“Don’t give up on your dream, no matter how difficult it may seem. Persons might tell you different things and may discourage you from reaching your goals, but just keep your head on.”
