(PLTM) - What you put in is what you get out. This is the basis of academic success, earned by Chris-Tiann Roberts, who was named top student for this year’s 2017 graduating class of St. George’s Secondary School. Following her performance on the recent in-house exams at the school, in addition to her term grades from both fourth and fifth form, Roberts reaped the highest results, with a 91% passing grade. She secured top place above thirty-three other students. In an Interview with BVI Platinum News, the sixteen year-old said it was not something she expected, but she is pleased with her performance. “I wouldn’t say I expected to be number one, but I tried my best and I was pleased with my result. I was humbled and I got what I worked for,” Roberts said. Roberts is now awaiting her CSEC results in 12 subjects, namely Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Human and Social Biology, Integrated Science, Maths, English, Spanish, Social Studies, Information Technology, Literature, and Principles of Accounts. She intends to further her education after graduating from St. Georges Secondary, but is unsure of where she will do so. “I’m still deciding whether I should stay in the region or go abroad. I’m sure I would make the best decision.” She added, “Where ever it is that I go, I’m leaning towards doing something in the science field, but I’m interested in law as well. I have a knack for science, so my choice would be something in science.” In advice to other students around the Territory, Roberts encouraged students to try their best and stay focused to what they love doing.
“Whether you’re in primary or secondary school, any school at all, try your best. You should not look at others, you should not gauge your own success based on other people. You should know what you’re capable of, know what potential you have and try to tap into that potential. Try to succeed and do the best you can.” BVI Platinum News also spoke with Brandon Kartick, who secured the second spot at the institution. Kartick, who aspires to be a Veterinarian, said he is happy over his performance, and looks forward for what lies ahead. He advises others to “Keep working hard and try not to get distracted. Keep studying, keep focused and help others out along the way; it will help you.” He too intends to continue his educational journey, but is unsure of where he will make his next move. The other students who fall in the top ten ranking of the school are Davindra O’Neal, Auteisha Chambers, Jada Samuel, Solene Seaman, Malik George, Jose Lopez, Jhaunte Braithwaite and Schorndy Berkeley.
