Update: One In Custody In Mooney’s Murder

(PLTM) - One person is currently in police custody, in relation to the murder of David ‘Mooney’ Springette, who was shot on June 21, in the East End area.

According to the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force, the individual is assisting the Major Investigation Team with their investigation into the matter.

Police also noted that a number of searches have been conducted.

Police are currently conducting inquiries in the area of the shooting, as well as exploring links with a number of recent incidents.

The death of Mooney is documented as the 2nd murder this month, and the 7th homicide in six months.

Information surrounding the incident is still sketchy.

Springette has been the target of shootings before.

On December 12, he was injured following a report of gunfire in the Long Look area around 6:30 am. He reported to Peebles Hospital with bullet wounds and was subsequently discharged.

Two weeks later, he was attacked by a masked gunman, who fired shots at him, but he managed to escape uninjured.

For the year, this is the fourth murder to have occurred in the East End/Long Look area. There have also been several shooting incidents in the area, prompting police and residents to call for action.

The murder also follows the "Stop the Crime" concert, which was held just last Friday at the Pier Park.

A man, who survived two previous shooting incidents in December 2016, was shot and killed at a bar in eastern Tortola this evening, June 21, 2017. Dead is David Springette, known as 'Mooney'.
