BVI Cops 16 Medals In Archery Tournament

(PLTM) - The national archery team of the British Virgin Islands returned home with a total of sixteen medals, after dominating at an international archery competition in Puerto Rico over the weekend.

Following their participation in the Juan Enrique Barrios (JEB) Cup World Ranking Event, and the Caribbean Development Championships, the Virgin Islands Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) and Womens' Archery Team, copped 7 gold, 6 silver and 3 bronze medals.

The event began on April 30th and ran through to May 5th 2017.

Medals were recorded by Khristie Latchmen in the Jr Recurve Women's category, where she earned two gold medals in the qualification and elimination rounds. The same goes for Ritseeniyah Georges in the Compound Women’s category, along with an additional gold in the Mixed Doubles round.

Silver medals in the qualification and elimination rounds were recorded by Jahmaine Liburd in the Junior Recurve Men's category, D’Moi Martin in the Compound Men category and Winnette Lawrence in the Compound Women category.

In the Compound Cadet Women category, Shania Daigneault secured gold medals in the qualification and elimination round, along with a bronze medal in the Mixed Doubles round.

Adriel Singh, who competed in the Junior Recurve Men category, secured two bronze medals in the qualification and elimination rounds.

The BVI went up against archers from several different countries, including Korea, Great Britain and the United States of America.

Ritseeniyah Georges said, "We have made new friends, learned many things and overall had a wonderful time. This was a wonderful experience to meet, shoot and learn from the more experienced archers."

The JEB Cup is a Developmental Championship League that was created as a stepping-stone for developing countries in the sport.
