(PLTM) - Days after admitting to providing inaccurate information to Premier Hon. Dr. D. Orlando Smith, Financial Secretary, Mr. Neil Smith is proceeding on leave from Monday, March 27.
In a brief comment, Mr. Smith told BVI Platinum News that there is nothing sinister about his leave and would not comment further, indicating that he decided to take his vacation.
Mr. Smith didn't answer further questions in relation to when he decided to take his vacation, for how long and when he is expected to return.
Meanwhile, at a press conference this afternoon, Governor John Duncan briefly commented on the matter.
"I have heard that he is intending to go on leave. I have discussed it with the Premier and I am assured that the Premier has matters in hand to make sure that his absence is on leave is not prejudicial."
When asked if he is aware of whether Mr. Smith was asked to proceed on leave, the Governor said, "I have not asked him about it."
Efforts to contact Premier Hon. Dr. D. Orlando Smith on the matter were unsuccessful.
The FS has been the Financial Secretary of the Territory for several years.
