(PLTM) - Quick response by fire officers averted a major fire at the Bar Bay Water Plant in eastern Tortola tonight, March 23. The fire was reported by an employee.

When BVI Platinum News arrived on the scene, fire officers were working to extinguish the fire.

According to preliminary reports from officials, the fire will not interrupt the plant's operation.

Chief Fire Officer, Mr. Zebalon Mclean was on the scene and briefly commented on the fire.

"We got a call from one of the persons working at the plant to let us know that there was a fire at the plant. Outside of that, I cannot say because they called me and I came," he told BVI Platinum News while assisting his officers.

The Fire Chief added, "It's (fire) inside the building...We gained access from the western side entry door and those guys were able to get the hoses in and down towards the east and the western side. Most of the fire was concentrated on that side."
