(PLTM) - The BVI Softball Association (BVISA) is readying themselves to overcome all hurdles in their way, to be able to compete in the 2020 Olympic Games.

Bria Smith, Secretary General for the BVISA, said that the association’s first step is to form a female national team, that will represent the Territory moving forward.

To this end, about 17-20 females will be chosen from the ongoing 2017 Harriette Skelton Fastpitch Softball League, to join the Territory’s National Female Softball Team.

The females will be selected based on the statistics collected on their performance throughout the league.

“We have five female teams this year, so we have a good number of women to choose from; to choose the best players to make the best national team,” Smith told BVI Platinum News.

Following the selection of the team, they will then journey to the Dominican Republic to compete in the 2017 Pan-American Games.

The team must qualify at this stage to earn a spot at the Olympic Games.
