(PLTM) - The British Virgin Islands is standing tall when it comes to competitive racing for sailors across the region, as the local association, the Royal BVI Yacht Club continues to travel abroad and return with multiple trophies and titles.

Their most recent wins recorded were by their junior racers, who travelled earlier this week to compete in the 2017 Crucian Open at the St. Croix Yacht Club.

Of a team of seven local Optimist sailors, three returned home with trophies won within their respective divisions. The three podium finishers were Nathan Haycraft, Samuel Allen and Kael Chalwell.

Racing outside the reef at Teague Bay, St. Croix, the two day event saw a total of 27 sailors competing in the Championship Fleet, where Nathan Haycraft earned the third place spot.

Haycraft also placed second in the Blue Fleet of the competition, which caters to persons age of 11 and 12.

In the Red Fleet, which caters to persons between the ages of 13 and 15, BVI’s own Kyle Roose took 10th place.

Right behind her, in the 10 and under category, White Fleet, Samuel Allen placed 21st overall, followed by Ryan lettsome in the 26th place.

In the Green Fleet, Kael Chalwell faced stiff competition from local St. Croix Yacht Club sailor, Moorehead and it ultimately came down to the very last race.

Tied on points, the two sailors went head to head for the overall win, but Moorehead clinched it, finishing the race second to Chalwell’s third.

Antonio Cisneros, at only his second overseas regatta, was noted to have raced an excellent series, with his best result of 4th in race eight and an overall finish position of 8th.

Wil Seddon, the youngest team member finished in 14th.
