(PLTM) - The National Bank of the Virgin Islands (NBVI) is celebrating with members of its sponsored BVI Football Association senior team, Islanders Football Club (FC), on being named champions of the 2016/2017 league.
This year marks the fourth consecutive year that the Islanders FC are the Territory’s champions.
The team’s star striker, Kevin Fisher, also received the league’s Golden Boot award for the most goals scored by any player throughout the 2016/2017 league.
To celebrate the team’s efforts, staff members from National Bank joined spectators this past Saturday, February 11, to watch the team play in the semi-ï¬nals against One Love for a chance at the President’s Cup.
After an intense overtime play, Islanders FC won with three penalty kicks, but was unsuccessful in the ï¬nals for the President’s Cup the following day, playing against Sugar Boys.
In attendance at Saturday’s game was NBVI’s Chief Executive Ofï¬cer, Joy Francis, who was thrilled at the opportunity to support the team.
She said, “At National Bank we pride ourselves on being a community bank and that means investing in good programmes that support individual and community development, such as sports.”
Francis added, “For us, it has been more exciting than I’d ï¬rst anticipated to come out and support the team. We are learning more about football, and it is helping to build a stronger sense of team spirit, even within the Bank; so overall, I am very happy with our team’s performance and our sponsorship.”
The team’s championship trophy will be on display at the Bank’s main ofï¬ce in Road Town.
National Bank is also a proud sponsor of three teams in the BVI Football Association’s School League, namely the Under 17 and Under 15 boys’ teams at Elmore Stoutt High School and the Althea Scatliffe Primary School team.
