(PLTM) - Sir Richard Branson and his family hosted over 250 BVI guests at a prestigious charity gala on Moskito Island last weekend, to celebrate the official launch of Unite BVI – a charity dedicated to tackling community and environmental challenges across the region. According to Sir Richard's team, Unite BVI was created in 2016 and the non-profit organization will focus on three key areas. These include supporting entrepreneurs. Unite BVI will connect the region’s most promising start-up entrepreneurs with the tools, knowledge and resources they need to thrive.

"The charity aims to help create jobs and opportunities in the local community".

Unite BVI will also focus on environmental conservation: advocating for the preservation of natural beauty on the British Virgin Islands by protecting vulnerable species and encouraging ‘greener’ solutions. Also, community enrichment---enriching the community through supporting education projects and health and social developments. The gala guests included government officials, directors of local non-profit organizations, community group leaders, local residents and co-donor partners.

Unite BVI aims to create a unique community of stakeholders who can positively influence and support Unite BVI projects. Speaking at the event, Sir Richard, Virgin Group Founder said that he is a firm believer that wherever one live and work, they should do everything they can to enrich the lives of those that live there and protect the natural environment.

"My family and I love the BVI and we want to do all we can to support the local community. I particularly want to thank our neighbors for agreeing to partner with us – together we can make a huge difference.”

Lauren Keil, Foundation Manager at Unite BVI, commented that, at Unite BVI they are dedicated to supporting and empowering the local community.

"We are focused on identifying the root causes of issues and working together to overcome challenges to make a real difference and bring about positive change.”

Keil said, “The gala was a fantastic opportunity to bring together leaders from the region to hear more about the work of Unite BVI and discuss ways to create opportunities to inspire and empower the next generation of world-changers.” Tickets for the gala were sold out. 100% of ticket sales and funds will directly support Unite BVI projects. Unite BVI overheads are covered by Virgin Unite, the non-profit foundation supported by the Virgin Group and the Branson family, meaning that 100% of all donations received go directly to initiatives they create or support.
