Reigning Festival Queen, Miss British Virgin Islands Erika Creque left the Territory earlier today, January 10, beginning her two-day travels to the Philippines, where she will represent the Territory in the 65th annual Miss Universe pageant.
Creque, along with over 80 other beauties from all ends of the world, will begin competing later this week in a host of preliminary segments and appearances, in hopes of securing top spots in the live show on January 30th.
A confident Creque told BVI Platinum News that her strategy to secure a top spot or the prestigious title is to allow her unique personality and intelligence to shine.
On that note, she stated that those very qualities, including her sense of style and confidence, are what sets her apart from the past representatives of the BVI who entered the Miss Universe pageant.
All the contestants of the pageant are required to bring with them a token from their country. Creque chose to take a locally made rum from Callwood Rum Distillery.
“The gift I decided to take with me is a taste of the BVI’s culture and history in a bottle. I chose this gift not only because it represents who we are as a people, but also because it was made and manufactured in the BVI.”
