Students of the Althea Scatliffe Primary School left the audience in awe, at the end of their rendition of the fairy tale story, Cinderella, which they tweaked to include a Christmas twist.
The performance was part of the school’s annual Christmas concert dubbed 'A Cinderella Christmas', held last evening December 8, at the Sir Rupert Briercliffe Hall.
(PLTM) - Students were seen decked out in creative costumes, parading the stage to deliver an amazing performance, which was met by a standing ovation.
The end of year Christmas program is an event held by the school, in an effort to assist the students to unwind after a long term.
Grade 3 Teacher and one of the organisers for the production, Ms. Shemaine Brewley told BVI Platinum News, “After spending weeks doing work, tests, projects and assignments, it’s always good at the end of the year to do something that is fun, something they [students] can really enjoy, apart from doing school work.”
She noted that it is essential for the students to be able to unwind after such a long term.
Singing, dancing and acting was also noted to be key elements in the student’s social development.
“The performances assist in making the students well rounded, and that’s one of the major goals at the school. Not just to focus on one thing, which is academics. We provide platforms for them to excel in all areas and encourage them to explore different fields and do different things,” Brewley said.
She noted that such a showcase allows the school to identify the students who are talented in various areas, in addition to showing the parents, what their child is capable of.
“Parents are not always aware of their child’s capabilities until they come to events like these. So this is an opportunity for both sides to see who excels at what and for the school and the parents to provide guidance for further development," Brewley noted.
