(PLTM) - The Ballstarz women's team is the winner of $1500 and title holder of the 2016 BVI Football Association nine-a-side championships, having defeated Virgin Gorda United (VG United) women’s team 6-2 in the finals played on Saturday, November 26, at the A. O. Shirley Recreational Grounds.
At the beginning of the game, Ballstarz jumped straight into a 2 nil lead, favours made by MVP Philia James, after reacting to a loose ball in the penalty box, followed by Morgan Creque doubling the advantage in the 17th minute.
Right before halftime, James scored her second goal, which upped the Ballstarz score to 3 nil.
VG United regrouped and came back with vengeance in their eyes, securing two goals from star player, Kezia Gumbs.
Unfortunately, they were cut short in their comeback, as the team mistakenly scored a goal on themselves, making the score 4-2 in Ballstarz favour.
Pushing forward in search for more goals, Ballstarz came through with fast breaks, scoring two more; first a free kick by Murcella Gordan and then another goal by Lilly Pierce, which saw the final score of the game, 6-2.
At the awards presentation following the game, several players were honoured for their athleticism, skills and team ethics.
Brittney Peters was honoured as the Golden Boot winner, Kimberly Howell as the Golden Glove and Philia James as MVP.
With this loss, VG united secured second place in the league, with the Avengers women's team securing third.
