(PLTM) - One of the two young men who attempted to rob a man of his $2,000 gold chain on Virgin Gorda (VG), was jailed, while the other was spared prison time by receiving a suspended sentence.

Yesterday afternoon, November 25, Juwan Stevens, 18 and Everette Isaac, 25, were sentenced by a High Court Judge.

Isaac received an 18-month prison sentence with the two months he spent on remand to be taken into account. It was noted that he was the older one and the aggressor during the attempted robbery.

Stevens was sentenced to 12 months in prison, but it was suspended for 18 months. He was also ordered to attend rehab and a review will be done by the court in six months.

Last month, the two pleaded guilty to attempted robbery. Stevens was represented by Attorney-at-Law Mrs. Valerie Stephens-Gordon and Isaac by Stephen Daniels.

According to court records, on March 11th, 2015, the complainant, Mr. Denis Vanterpool went to visit his mother's business place at Little Dix road. He then left with his girlfriend and a male friend, and he dropped them off at their respective locations.

The complainant then drove to his apartment around 10:45 pm and as he opened the vehicle door, two masked men pounced on him.

He said the taller one shouted, "Give me everything you got. I will kill you mother ***** tonight. I am not joking."

The same male then made an attempt to grab the complainant's gold chain, but he pulled away and sought to evade them.

One of the assailants grabbed his $60.00 shirt and tore it. Vanterpool then told them that he would give them want they want, but immediately kicked his door, hitting one of the men, who fell to the ground.

The men then ran and the complainant also ran straight to the police station.

According to the crown, Vanterpool was in fear for his life as he thought that the men were going to kill him. He told police that he did not see any weapon during the attack.

He indicated that the area is well lit and provided a detailed description of the men.

It was also noted that the victim is the cousin of one of the accused, Stevens.
