(PLTM) - While providing an explanation for her actions, Princess Latoya Starodd Todman, 29, of Pockwood Pond, told the Magistrate's Court that her actions were a reaction to the brutal treatment she received from officers.

In an appearance earlier today, November 25, while responding to charges of assault on two police officers, Todman told the court, "They hit me, I hit them. They put their hands on me, so I put my hands on them."

Todman pleaded not guilty to the charges of disorderly conduct, two counts of assault on police and two counts of criminal damage. She pleaded guilty to a charge of criminal damage, where one glass pane, property of the government of the Virgin Island, was destroyed.

As previously reported, following an altercation involving her boyfriend on January 20th 2016, the accused was arrested and taken to the Road Town Police Station.

After being detained within the confines of the station’s charging room, the accused became boisterous and began complaining that she was claustrophobic, and attempted to leave.

The court heard that at this point, Todman began using indecent language, all while resisting police attempts to keep her from leaving. In further attempts, Todman allegedly bit a police officer.

She was then taken to the inspector's office, where she shattered a glass door.

The court heard that the officers who were involved in the squabble with the accused were hurt and had to seek medical attention at the Peebles Hospital. She is scheduled to make an appearance on March 7th 2017 for this matter.

The court also heard a separate matter involving Todman, stemming from an incident which occurred in 2014. Todman is charged with criminal damage and told the court that she was defending herself, and pleaded not guilty.

According to the particulars of this case, on December 13, 3014, the accused and her boyfriend at the time, Ivan Smith, were at a bar in Sea Cows Bay playing pool and having drinks. Tired of the scene, Smith told the accused he was ready to leave, to which she responded that she was not.

Both left the bar, but in discussing whether or not they wanted to stay, an argument ensued and a fight between the two followed shortly after.

About an hour later, Smith attended to a knock on the door of his home and saw the accused, along with the back windshield of his car damaged. A chase resulted from then on.

The court heard that he was unable to catch the accused, but managed to pull out her hair piece.

The incident was reported to officers by Todman, who was seen limping, but denied any medical assistance.

She was placed on $30,000 bail with one surety and was ordered to attend the Love Programme at the Family Support Network.

She will make an appearance at the court on February 3rd 2017 for this matter.
