(PLTM) - Young Sam Potgieter outshined his elders and fellow competitors in this year’s staging of the Mourant Ozannes College Classic Series, after he broke his own record.
In the one mile division, the young runner lowered the 6 minutes 34.56 seconds record he made on October 2, to 6 minutes 33.87 seconds to wrap up the end of the series earlier this month, and claimed the one mile title.
Reuben Stoby was the overall winner of the 2 miles run at a time of 11 minutes 23.39 seconds, while Rosmond Johnson took the women’s division with a time 14 minutes 30.69 seconds.
The series also saw the participation of veteran Zebalon McLean, who participated in the first College Classic Series race on October 19, 1996, and has participated in the series for 20 of its 21 years of existence.
He shared, “I think the one unique thing about the College Classic Series is that it offers something for everyone; walkers, runners, joggers, even people who are not interested in running would come out because you have this camaraderie and you have the company of other people to pull you along.”
“I’m glad to see that is has been carried, not by athletes, but by regular people who come out for the exercise,” he said.
