(PLTM) - Plans are in the works to renovate the dinghy dock in Cane Garden Bay (CGB), and to this end, Second District Representative, Hon. Melvin 'Mitch' Turnbull will be seeking some $300,000 from government coffers to facilitate the works.
Hon. Turnbull said that some remedial works were recently done on the dock, but there is need for a comprehensive reconstruction.
"If there is one thing that I will get out of this (2017) budget coming, is to build and have that dock rebuilt in whole concrete for the sustainability...If we look at what was done in Carrot Bay, it's going to be in the region of $250,000 to $300,000 when we build the dock. That is the money we will be calling for to build the dock," Hon. Turnbull stated.
He said he has the full support of Deputy Premier, Hon. Dr Kedrick Pickering. "I know based on the conversations that I have had, I know that I have Dr. (Kedrick) Pickering, Deputy Premier's full support and we will be lobbying."
The Second District Representative spoke to the small amount of works being done.
"But for right now, what we have been doing---it's the ground sea season; (we are) doing remedial works to it…But in Standing Finance Committee, we will be pushing to get the money to get it concrete by the end of 2017."
He said, "So all the old loose pieces of wood there have been picked up and re-positioned. The only thing left to do is the 2x4 that runs up for the dingy to tie on to."
Hon. Turnbull has assured that when the dock is renovated, it's purpose will not be changed.
"With regards to the narrowness, what I don’t want to do is to extend the dock to a point where it no longer serves as a dingy dock and it becomes a place where everybody puts their big boats. So it has to serve as it was planned for," he assured.
