(PLTM) - Following a match between the KPMG/Maples joint team against the Conyers/Deloitte joint team in the British Virgin Islands Cricket Association’s Corporate Cricket League, team KPMG/Maples secured their first win of the tournament. The match was held last Thursday, October 20 at the A. O. Shirley Grounds in Road Town. The match began following Conyers/Deloitte winning the coin toss and deciding to bat. It appeared to be the right decision for them, as they secured 84 runs from their 10 overs, mostly thanks to Murray Laing from Conyers. However, team KPMG/Maples batting lineup proved too strong, as their reply saw good partnerships at the top of the order. Richard May of Maples and Johannes Naude of KPMG combined to put on 444 from 32 deliveries, with Richard May contributing 23 including five boundaries. Both openers were bowled in successive overs by Conyers female player, Kaiola Rhymer. Despite losing the openers, Dan Perkins and David Welford of Maples were able to see team KPMG/Maples home in 9.2 overs. The results of the game sank the Conyers/Deloitte team to the bottom of the Pool B table. They are yet to register a win in the tournament. KPMG/Maples’ win raised the team to fourth position, where they are now tied with Police and Harneys on three points, with only run rate separating all three teams. BCQS/Antarctica are leading pool B with two wins out of two. The second game of the day saw a clash of two new teams, Groundworks and Moorings, with Groundworks taking the win. Groundworks had made an impressive start to the tournament by beating RTW by a significant margin, whilst Moorings had come up against the current champions Delta Petroleum in their first fixture and lost. That result put Moorings in fourth place in Pool A, above Team RTW due to a better run rate. Team Groundworks on the other hand shot straight to the top of Pool A, with two big victories under their belt. They are now tied on 6 points with current champions Delta Petroleum, but have a better run rate.
